Alternative Movement Storms Ogun Communities to Battle Voter Apathy Ahead of 2027 Elections
A socio-political group, the Alternative Movement has taken to communities in Ogun State to sensitise residents on the need to to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate actively in the 2027 general elections.
The movement, which is currently engaging communities across the state, made a stop at Atan in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area at the weekend, urging eligible voters to pick up their unclaimed PVCs, while also encouraging those yet to register to do so promptly.
The movement believes that democracy thrives only when citizens take part in the process.
The outreach comes on the heels of a recent complaint by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that over one million PVCs remain uncollected.
Speaking during the sensitization campaign, Rev. Olusola Salau, Southwest Chairman of the Movement, described the development as a troubling indicator of civic disengagement with millions of eligible voters.
Salau said “For us to raise a voting community different from politicians, we are going everywhere, raising people who will be effective on election day.
“We have over 200 million people in Nigeria, and INEC is still holding on to over a million PVCs that people have not picked up.
“Even among those who have, many don’t vote. We cannot keep complaining about bad governance when we’re not part of the solution,” he added.
Also speaking, a member of the movement, Olamide Immanuel, reiterated their commitment to increasing electoral participation.
“We have been moving across Ogun State. Here in Atan, we are telling people they must be part of the process if they want change.”
