Association calls for government, private sector synergy to revive Nigeria’s security, safety status
The Occupational Safety And Health Association (OSHA), UK-Nigeria Region, Ogun state chapter has lamented that the country is one of the least safe countries in the world.
OSHA equally regretted that the nation is numbered amongst the least clean countries in the world, adding that the reality about the health and safety of Africans is in messy state.
Worried by the disheartening status, the state’s Chairperson of the association, Peace Onuiri during a Press conference in Abeokuta the Ogun state capital on Thursday called on concerned stakeholders to support the association’s National Safety Advocacy Project in order to revive nation’s health, safety, security and environmental status.
The association also called on Nigerians to uphold its mandate of achieving zero deaths, fatalities and incidents in workplaces through the implementation of preventive strategies in all sectors of the economy.
“We call for partnership and synergy with concerned government institutions and private organisation to support the movement of the OSHAssociation National Safety Advocacy Project to revive the Health, Safety, Security and Environmental status of Nigeria before the international community.
She added “We call on all and sundry to uphold the mandate of the Occupational Safety & Health Association (OSHAssociation) which is to achieve zero deaths, fatalities and incidents in workplaces through the implementation of preventive strategies in all the sectors of the economy, including the informal sectors in Nigeria.
“Nigeria is one of the least clean countries – 151 out of 180 countries of the world and measuring overall health system performance for 191 countries byWorld Health Organisation, Nigeria ranks 187 out of 191 countries of the world”, she added.
The Chairperson commended the effort of the state government in ensuring safety and security of lives in the state.
The Regional Administrator of OSHA, Engr. Emmanuel Uwalaka also called on private sector to join hands in promoting safety in Nigeria.
The Administrator who was represented by Mr Akinola Olumuyiwa advocated support for Onuiri to ensure proactive extra safety measures in all sectors in the state, especially the critical industries.
Others present at the Press conference include the state Patron, Chief Dosunmu Adetola Samson, the Director, Prince Olawale Shittu, former Chairman, Odogbolu Local Government.
