Customs’ “Operation Whirlwind” Intercepts 26,950 Litres Smuggled PMS In Ogun, Lagos
The Nigeria Customs Service, Operation Whirlwind team, led by its National Coordinator, Comptroller Hussein Kehinde Ejibunu has intercepted 26,950 litres of smuggled Premium Motor Spirit known as petrol during its two weeks operation in Zone A axis of the command.
Ejibunu while briefing newsmen at the command’s office in Abeokuta, Ogun state on Thursday said the team intercepted 121 kegs of PMS, equivalent to 3025 litres along Badagry/ Seme road in Lagos State.
He stressed that during the operation, the team intercepted a truck conveying 616 kegs, 25 litres each, of PMS equivalent to 15,400 litres along Imeko /Obada road, while 2,500 litres were intercepted along Owode/Atan road, in Ogun State respectively.
The Nigeria Customs in collaboration with the National Security Adviser (NSA), set up Operation Whirlwind Task Force team, an initiative that was conceived to put an end to the ever-growing monster of unwholesome illegal exportation of petroleum products.
He said “For Zone A axis, the team intercepted 121 kegs of PMS of 25litres each equivalent to 3025 litres at Oyinkansola Global concept along Badagry/Seme road in Lagos state. Means of conveyance two cars. un 31 of May, 2024
“Seventy-seven drums of PMS (616 kegs of 25litres each) equivalent to 15.400 litres at Seayab Petroleum along Imeko/Obada road in Ogun state. The means conveyance is a truck with the Reg. No 95042440. Friday 7th of June, 2024.
“100 kegs of PMS at 25 litres each equivalent to 2500 liters at Quawiyan Resource Petroleum Nig. LTD along Owode/Atan road in Ogun state. Means of conveyance. One Toyota Camry with Ch. No 4TIBE3KXU672540 on Saturday 8th June 2024
“41 kegs PMS at 25 litres each equivalent to 6025 liters at Julanky Dil & GAS along Owode /llaro road in Ogun state. Means of conveyance 2Toyota Avalon cars with Ch.NO. 4TIBE288720266597 and 4T1BF288330298190. On Saturday 8th June,2024”.
Ejibunu recalled that team intercepted a combined total of 280, 135 liters of fuel in collaboration with other commands Nationwide valued at N195.5 million in Adamawa State.

He said “The menace posed by the unpatriotic act of these economic saboteurs on the Nigerian Economy cannot be overemphasized hence the need for synergy and cooperation with other patriotic Government Agencies in this fight. There is a huge distortion in the supply chain of petroleum products to designated states and filling stations due to diversion to neighboring countries.
The National Coordinator said that the illegal activities of smugglers in the country is wreaking havoc on the economy, hence the need for Customs to work in synergy with other government agencies in the fight against smuggling.
