Fanfare, Pomp As Adire Festival Thrills  Abeokuta

The ancient city of Abeokuta, Ogun State, came alive yesterday as the Adire Week celebration held in grand style.

Adire markers, marketers, and dealers from far and wide gathered at the popular Adire market in Itoku area of the state, proudly donning their exquisite Adire attire, complete with intricately designed clothing accessories.

The Adire Week celebration was a tribute to the rich cultural heritage of the Egba people. The festival, which has been held annually for many years, continues to grow in popularity, attracting visitors from far and wide.

This year’s event was no exception, with people flocking to Abeokuta to experience the magic of the Adire culture.

The event, which celebrates the rich cultural heritage of the Egba people is considered as a must-attend for anyone interested in traditional Nigerian culture. With its vibrant colors, infectious music, and warm hospitality.

As the festivities began, the air was electric with excitement. Horse riders, adorned in Adire regalia, galloped through the market, adding to the thrill of the occasion.

The sound of music filled the air, with traditional drummers and musicians performing to the delight of the crowd.

One of the market leaders, Mr Ogunfidodo Micheal, while speaking to newsmen at the event disclosed that the motive behind the celebration is to preserve the culture of Egba people.

Ogunfidodo noted that their are several potential in the adire industry that the federal government have yet to tep into, urging the government to do so for the economic benefit of Nigeria.

“He said. Government has a lot to from this industry only of they can aee the opportunities. Adire can boost the economy of Nigeria. We want government to consider this.

Also, the Itoku market was abuzz with activity, as people from all walks of life gathered to witness the spectacular display of Egba Adire culture.

The Adire people, divided into different groups, paraded through the town, showcasing their stunning Adire outfits.The procession, which began at Itoku market, wounded its way through the streets, ending at Sapon. The groups, each with their unique Adire designs, proudly displayed their cultural heritage, leaving onlookers in awe.As the day wore on, the excitement only grew. The market was shut down, and the streets became a giant playground, filled with laughter and music.
