Financial independence: Ogun govt trains hundred of youths in solar panel installation
Abeokuta—Ogun State government has trained over 1,000 youths in solar installation in its bid to reduce unemployment rate in the state to the barest minimum.
The youths were drawn from the 20 local government areas of the state.
The programme was organised in conjunction with the Afterschool Graduate Development Programme.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony of the trainees in Abeokuta, the project manager and former aide to governor Abiodun, Abiola Odetola said the training was part of the governor’s administration’s efforts to empower the youths and reduce unemployment in the state.
Odetola said the trainees would be given starter packs to enable them start their own businesses in solar installation.
“They are being trained to have skill in solar installation and how they can use this skill to make money and be financially independent. It will reduce the rate of unemployment in the state and the multiplier effect of this is that by the time these ones have set up their business, they will train some other people to have the skill and it will increase the employment rate in the state”, he said.
He urged the trainees to make good use of the skills they acquired during the training to better their lives and contribute to the development of the state.
Odetola assured that Abiodun’s administration would continue to invest in youth development programmes, adding that the youths were the future of the state.
One of the trainees, Miss Bola Popoola, thanked the state government for the opportunity given to her to acquire the skill in solar installation.
Popoola said the training would help her to start her own business and become self-reliant.
Another trainee, Mr. Yusuf Adebayo, said the training had given him the confidence to start his own solar installation business.
Adebayo said he was grateful to the state government for the opportunity given to him to acquire the skill.
Also, a beneficiary of the training Olatunji Adeleke stated he sees the training as an additional value to him, maintaining that the skills gave him a second chance to be a better.
He appreciated the government for the opportunity while calling on other beneficiaries to keep their head up for better days.
