Fish farmers seek justice over killing of colleague in Ogun
Fish farmers in Odogbolu Local Government of Ogun state have cried for justice over the death of their colleague, Amos Oyemachi who was allegedly hacked to death by yet-to-be identified assailants.
The 32- year-old Oyemachi was reported to have been attacked by the assailant on 12th December, 2022, along the old Lagos-Benin road in Okangba, Ijebu-Ode and was brutally killed.
Until his sudden death, the victim was a member of Yemule-Ikangba-Agoro Fish Farmers Association, Odogbolu Local Government of the state.
Addressing the Press in Ijebu-Ode yesterday, the association said the victim was last seen on Monday 12th December, 2022 after which the family raised the alarm when he didn’t return home as usual, later that evening.
The association explained that a search party swung into action that same day until the decomposing mutilated body was found in a hook path less than 200 meters from the main road old Lage Benin Road on the evening of Tuesday December 19.
“The late Amos Oyemachi was last seen on Monday 12th December, 2022. The family raised alarms when he didn’t return home as usual, late that evening. A search party swung into action that same day. But not until the evening Tuesday 19th December, bellore the near decomposing mulated body was found in a hook path less than 200 meters from the main road old Lage Benin Road, not far from Agero town.
The association is appealing to the state police command to investigate the heinous crime with a view to bringing the perpetrators to justice without delay.
The association is also demanding that the state and federal governments fix the Old Lagos-Benin Road.
“That the police should provide adequate security beyond Obalende- Ikangba to Agoro-Oku Owa axis which has become a den for criminals and killers and patrol the same frequently to prevent a repeat. However, the police should stop harassment and extortion of innocent commuters and other road users
“That the governments of Ogun state and federal should fix the Old Lagos-Benin Road, which sorry state makes it possible for criminals to ply their devilish trade easily.”
The fish farmers lamented that such incidents have continued longer along the road despite several police checkpoints along the road.
The association said the route has become a den of criminals and killers, adding that road users use the road with fear and trepidation on a daily basis.
