Foundation Advocates for Enhanced Technical, Vocational Education in Nigerian Schools
The Tola Adebajo Foundation (TAF) has emphasized the need for an improved educational curriculum that incorporates technical and vocational studies in primary and secondary schools across Nigeria.
This call to action was made by the founder of the foundation, Prince Omotola Adebajo, during his goodwill message at the recently concluded free summer coaching program organized by TAF for over 1,500 underprivileged children in Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State.
Adebajo stressed that this enhancement would enable the government to identify talents, skills, and academic strengths early on, paving the way for informed career choices and professional development.
He believes that technical and vocational education is crucial in bridging the gaps in Nigeria’s infrastructure and critical sectors, ultimately leading to positive growth and development.
The founder said Nigeria must begin to look for ways to engage the young through technical and vocational education such that deficits in the nation’s infrastructure and other critical sectors are bridged, which he believed would bring about positive development.
“Every student must be allowed to pursue an additional study different from pure science, arts and commercial studies, for instance, do not force the general sciences on wards. A student may be nursing a preference for a technical or vocational program but then, because the curriculum hasn’t captured that session, he or she is left with the traditional general studies; it is, therefore, crucial for the government to make infrastructure available for those exceptions.”
Meanwhile, the Tola Adebajo Foundation again, has increased the number of indigent pupils and students it will cater for ahead of the 2024/2025 academic year.
According to the TAF’s Lead Media Consultant, Olusegun ‘Pelumi Olukoga, the gesture will no longer be limited to Akitori as more schools in Oke-Sopen, Oke-Agbo, Ojowo, and Japara have been shortlisted.
In a press release in Abeokuta, Ogun state capital on Tuesday, Olukoga noted that the shortlisted students will be supported with cash awards, provision of uniform and writing materials on a termly basis in order to aid the learning rate of the pupils.
His words.”We are determined at TAF to make life better for the less privileged and the foundation will not stop at making sure education is accessible to the children, particularly skills that will distinguish them to be self-reliant towards nation building.”
