Gbenga Daniel Accuses Ogun Govt of Sabotaging Federal Road Projects, Seeks Royal Intervention

The Senator representing Ogn East Senatorial District at the House of Assembly, Otunba Gbenga Daniel has raised fresh concerns over what he described as deliberate sabotage of federal intervention projects by the Ogun State Government.
Addressing traditional rulers, party leaders and residents at the midterm Community Assessment and Review Tour of the BATOGD Movement in Ijebu North Local Government on Sunday, the former governor accused the Dapo Abiodun-led administration of frustrating the rehabilitation of the Itanrin and General Hospital Roads projects.
He said the road projects were fully funded and facilitated through federal agencies under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to Daniel, the Ijebu North Local Government Chairman allegedly issued a stop work order on the contractors based on pressure from the state government, an action he warned could cost the people their long-awaited road rehabilitation.
The Senator lamented that If by December 2025 the stop-work order is not revoked, the federal funding for these roads will be lost and returned to the treasury, describing the state government’s move as anti-people and driven by personal political grievances.
“This brings me to the specific issue for the people of Ijebu North. You are aware that we facilitated the rehabilitation of the Itanrin and General Hospital Roads through federal agencies.
“This is part of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which we are duty-bound to bring home to our people. The role of a National Assembly member is facilitation. We facilitate, and the federal agencies execute.
“While this should have been commended, the State Government has erected needless impediments. They erroneously believe the federal contractors are “OGD’s contractors,” and in line with their agenda of removing anything associated with me, the project must be frustrated. A “stop work order” has been issued by the Local Government Chairman, who we understand is under immense pressure.
“Let me be blunt: if by December 2025, this stop work order is not revoked, the federal funding for these roads will be lost. It will be returned to the treasury”, he added.
Speaking on the internal tensions within the Ogun APC, Daniel accused the state government of running a “3-man closed government” that punishes dissent, isolates party elder statesmen, and weaponizes threats, including demolition notices and job losses against those who offer alternative views.
He said “This is not governance; it is a cult, run with dictatorial instincts.”
“This is not how we built Ogun State. During our tenure, we established the Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic in Ijebu-Igbo. We completed the multi-campus system of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, creating the College of Engineering in Ibogun, the College of Agriculture in Aiyetoro, and the College of Medicine in Sagamu. We moved OOU to its permanent site in Ago-Iwoye. Development was for all.”
Daniel appealed to traditional rulers and community leaders to intervene and persuade the governor to allow the road projects to continue for the benefit of residents.
“There are hundreds of roads needing state intervention,” he said. “Sabotaging two federal roads because of personal grievances is the height of political pettiness.”
