The Ogun Youth Advocate for Social Development (OGYASD) has decried the state of the sports sector in the state, appealing to the state government to invest in the sector.
The President of the group, Comrade Oluseyi Alamu disclosed this in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital on Tuesday during the 2021 Ogun State America Football Programme sponsored by Hirah Kitchen.
The programme featured a rugby competition between Royalty Flag team and Rhinos and Stallion Flag.
The group stressed that investing in sports, apart from the economic implication, will encourage talent discovery amongst the youth in the state.
The group also argued that sports can strengthen social relationships, by bringing together people from different backgrounds and creating a sense of shared purpose and identity.
According to Alamu, sports can provide a productive outlet for young people and them focused and engaged, boosting their self-esteem, thereby reducing their vulnerability to harmful social influences.
“If government can take to our appeal, we the IGR of the state will increase. There are nations of the world who’s wealths are derived from sporting activities. Ogun state can also amass wealth if this is done.
His words “Sports can promote qualities like perseverance, teamwork, leadership, and gender equality.
