LeadWay Insurance retiree joins Ogun govt to sponsor grassroots sports
A former staff of LeadWay Insurance PLC has taken humanitarian gestures to rural communities in Ogun by sporsoring sport activities in St Joseph African Church Primary School, Odoloko in Ijebu-Ode Local Government of Ogun.
Abiodun who is an alumni of the school said that the gesture was his little way of contributing to the development of the sports sector and to discover young talents at the grassroots level.
He said this during the school’s 2022 Inter-House Sport competition held at the school premises.
Abiodun also appealed to the state government to tap into the abundant of talents in primary school pupils in the state to develop the sports sector.
Foluso Abiodun who was the major financier of the Inter-House Sport competition stressed that insufficient teachers is a major problem the school has been facing.
Abiodun explained that the school had suffered lack of classrooms with poor learning environment in the past before his (Abiodun) intervention seven years ago when he donated block of classrooms.
His words: “Governor has not been neglecting schools in the rural areas but the only challenge that this school is facing is insufficient teachers. Government must also encourage sports in rural schools. “There many young talents that have been discovered here today. Governor can tap into this to improve the sports sector.
The school propietres also decried shortage of teachers at the school, describing the situation as disheartening.
The proprietress, Badejo Olufunso in an interview with newsmen said the school is pained and worried over the precarious circumstance.
She lamented that the situation has further worsen learning in the school and posing threat to learning among the pupils whom she said are supposed to enjoy quality education.
Badejo explained that the school currently has only five teachers who are teaching over 80 pupils.
She further stressed that the situation is a common phenomenon among primary schols in most rural communities with call on the state government to as matter of urgency, recruit teachers in order to improve the quality of education at the school.
“We don’t have enough teachers. We are currently experiencing this shortage and it’s affecting learning among the pupils. Imagine a situation where one teacher is teaching two classes of many students. Currently, we have only five teachers who are teaching over 80 pupils.
The sport competition witnessed the presence of some of the alumni of the the citadel of learning who have been contributing to the development of the school in their various capacities.
