A Kwara State resident, Ridwan Fagade, has come forward with a harrowing tale of religious persecution, alleging that his life and that of his family are under threat due to his refusal to renounce Islam and be baptized into the Ifa traditional religion.
According to Ridwan, the persecution is being orchestrated by his father’s brother, Ifaseyi Fagbade, a key member of the Ifa and Iseselagba Society.
In a statement made available to journalists, Ridwan alleged that his uncle is notorious for wielding considerable spiritual power, which he allegedly uses to intimidate and dominate others.

Ridwan narrated that the ordeal began when he received a letter from Ifaseyi, stating that he had been chosen by Ifa to be baptized into their tribal worship.
Despite his adherence to Islam, Ridwan explained that he was advised by some family members that refusal would endanger his life and the lives of his immediate family.
“His letter stated that I had been chosen by Ifa to be baptized into their tribal worship. Despite my adherence to Islam, some family members advised that refusal would endanger my life and the lives of my immediate family.
“I declined the offer by simply not responding. My dad always shielded us from associating with his brother, and he warned us to distance ourselves from him because of his ungodly manner, he said.

Ridwan alleged that the repercussions of his decision became evident when there was an attempt to attack his home on October 18, 2023.
According to him, fortunately, he and his family were not at home during the assault, but the intruders ransacked their home.

Ridwan lamented that the attack had a devastating impact on his family, particularly his wife, Kafayat Fagade, whom he said was pregnant at the time.
“After enduring four years of infertility challenges and undergoing rigorous fertility treatments, she conceived around early August 2023.

“Tragically, due to the stress induced by the attack on our home by this cultist, she lost the pregnancy the following day. This loss, coupled with the ongoing threats, has left us in a state of profound fear and vulnerability”, he said.
“We reported the incident to the local authorities, but given the high levels of insecurity, corruption, and crime rate in Nigeria, our safety remained compromised,” Ridwan said.
Effort to get the reaction of the Spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, Ejire Adetoun Adeyemi proved aborted as  the phone calls put across to her were not responded to.
