In a statement issued on Monday and posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, NAFDAC warned the public against the use of the counterfeit product, which was discovered to be mislabelled and repackaged from Chlorpheniramine and Dexamethasone injection ampoules.

“The counterfeit Noristerat Injection 200mg has been found in Kano, Bauchi, and Niger States. This poses a serious health risk as unsuspecting women may be using a product that offers no contraceptive protection,” the agency stated.

According to NAFDAC, the fake Noristerat Injection bears the stated registration number 04-5715, with a manufacturing date of September 2022, expiry date of September 2027, and Lot Number KT02TTK.

Genuine Noristerat 200mg is a contraceptive injection designed to offer eight weeks of pregnancy protection and is intended for short-term birth control.

However, the fake version circulating in the market could expose users to unintended pregnancies and other health risks.

NAFDAC urged the public to be vigilant and report any suspected counterfeit products to the agency.

“We call on healthcare providers, pharmacists, and the general public to report any suspicious Noristerat Injection to NAFDAC. Your cooperation is vital in protecting public health,” the statement added.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public health and assured Nigerians that stricter surveillance measures would be implemented to prevent similar incidents.

For further information, NAFDAC advised the public to visit its official website or contact its offices nationwide.
