A storm of terror swept through Abeokuta on July 12, 2023, as armed men believed to be cultists launched a deadly attack on the home of rising political figure and youth advocate, Akinlade Abidemi Michael at his resident at No. 14 Alayo Street, Fadama, Elega, Abeokuta, Ogun State. In what many are calling an attempted political assassination, the assailants shot his security guard and made away with valuables worth millions of naira—leaving behind blood, threats, and a shaken community.

Eyewitnesses say the gang of eight stormed Akinlade’s residence in a chilling, military-style invasion, brandishing weapons and firing sporadically to scatter onlookers. “It was like a scene from a movie,” one resident recounted. “They moved with precision, like men on a mission.”

The attackers overpowered the guard and forced their way into the sitting room, where they looted luxury items, including gold jewelry, an iPhone 11, iPhone 12, and a Samsung Galaxy, estimated at over N14 million. But the theft, sources say, was not the real agenda.

Moments after the brutal invasion, the hoodlums reportedly forced the injured security guard to give up Akinlade’s personal phone number. What followed next sent shockwaves through the political community: a direct phone call to the youth leader, laced with death threats.

“We will hack you and all members of your family to death if we find you,” the voice allegedly warned, cold and calculated.

Akinlade, a fast-rising voice in Ogun State’s youth political movement, was away from home at the time—an absence many now believe may have saved his life.

A community elder, who spoke under strict anonymity, confirmed that the case has been reported to law enforcement. Police, according to him, have since advised Akinlade to remain in hiding while investigations are underway. “They told him to leave the state—or even the country—if he can. This wasn’t an ordinary robbery,” the source said.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, but political analysts are not ruling out an orchestrated plot aimed at silencing a rising challenger in Ogun State’s volatile political climate.

Source which does not want to mention name state that, they are political hoodlums which the government are using for there election.

As security agencies begin their investigation, one thing is certain: this was more than a home invasion. It was a message. And it has left an entire community—and a budding political star—on edge.
