NSCDC Boasts Zero Incidents of Accidental Discharge Since Inception
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps( NSCDC) Ogun said command on Wednesday boasted that the Corps has no record of accidental discharge since its inception.
The state Commandant, Idowu Ojelabi made the statement during the Corps 2023 annual retreat for all arms bearing departments and units held at the command’s headquarter, in Abeokuta with the theme: “Fundamentals Of Law Enforcement And Protection Of Infrastructural Facilities Towards Achieving A Peaceful Society”.
According to Ojelabi, the exceptional discipline exhibited by the corps’ officers is the key factor behind this remarkable accomplishment.
Ojelabi said that strict adherence to safety protocols and constant training have been instrumental in maintaining a zero-incidence record.
“Since the beginning of the NSCDC corps, we have never recorded any form of accidental discharge. This is because we put our officers on their toes. We train them, we sensitize them, because it takes some modalities before you can do the trigger so this is part of what we teach them.
Meanwhile, Ojelabi restated the Ogun NSCDC’s commitment towards protecting national assets in the State .
“The working slogan of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corp is defending the defenseless. Part of defending the defenseless is to sensitize the members of the public,” stated Ojelabi.
He emphasized that the critical national assets are owned by the people, necessitating collective efforts to ensure their protection.
The Deputy Governor of the state, Noimot Salako-Oyedele who was the mother of the day reregistered the state government commitment of continuous synergy with the NSCDC to provide adequate security in the state.
The Deputy Governor assured the Corps of the state government commitment in providing support for the command.
“ I assure you of the full support and commitment of Ogun state in providing the necessary resources and logistics to support your Corps. We recognize the critical role played in the overall development of our society and we will continue to prioritize this relationship.”
He highlighted the Command’s diverse mandates, including the peace and conflict resolution department, responsible for alternative dispute resolution, and the agro rangers unit, acting as intermediaries between farmers and herders.
During the retreat, Ojelabi expressed confidence that participants would gain a heightened understanding of their role in protecting society rather than suppressing it.
