NSCDC Kicks Against Girl-child Rape, Others

With the increasing number of rape, defilement, incest and unwholesome relationships happening to many girl-child and teenagers across Ogun State, it has become imperative to rethink of better ways towards avoiding these anomalies thereby giving a better care for the girl-child and teenagers amongst others.
Although, marriage being an institution ordained by God, do becomes unachievable by any means, but the custody of the girl-child, teenagers amongst others, ought to be appropriately considered, monitored and handled recommendably to avoid unpalatable consequences.
In a statement signed by the State Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dyke Ogbonnaya on behalf of the State Commandant, Kolawole Taiwo, revealed that this release is done to bring to our notice the rising cases of incest, defilement, unwholesome relationships of sorts due to separation which occur in many marriages these days.
He added that the sanctity of marriage is absolutely respectable but as humans that we all are, there are occasions when misunderstanding and disagreements come to play and the situations becomes unresolvable amongst the spouses. If such situations do arise though no one prays for such, it would be advisable to take steps that would be protective and rewarding for the girl-children and indeed, all teenagers alike as outrightly stipulated by the laws and constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Meanwhile, in his own submission, the State Commandant of NSCDC Ogun State Command, Mr. Kolawole Taiwo, warns the general public that appropriate discretion and deep-seated thoughts should be given and exercised in leaving the teenage children (either male or female) in the hands of anyone who may be unsuspectingly harmful to take advantage of such situations against their own biological daughters and/or any teenagers, for that matter, by having carnal knowledge of such innocent teenager, in whatever form or gender, which is absolutely condemnable by all standards.
Commandant Taiwo, further added that the Corps Commandant General, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, is deeply concerned and interested in the activities relating to gender-based issues and that is why he had instructed the “Anti-Human Trafficking, Irregular Migration and Gender Unit (AHTIM and Gender Unit)” which is directly under his watch to always be on the look out for all forms of abuse on teenagers especially the girl-child.
Adding that, he would do anything withing his capacity to ensure the best of safety is granted to the Nigerian child under this project meant to rescue every child of teenage age from forms of abuse and other illegal acts.
He further added, that the Corps Commandant General is working towards ensuring that all forms of
irregular, unwarranted and unconstitutional subjection of the Nigerian child to unconstitutional abuses is fought to the lowest ebb in conjunction with the other relevant agencies as the National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic In Persons and Other Related Offences Commission (NAPTIP) among others.
Meanwhile, Commandant Taiwo, has also warned all perpetrators to desist from these unworthy acts, while also beckoning on the members of the public to volunteer useful information that may lead to the arrest of such perpetrators still harbouring our communities here in Ogun State and its environs.
“I believe with everyone’s hand on deck and with solid cooperation with all security agencies particularly with the presence of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps across our various communities in and around Ogun State, we would be able to fight crime to a standstill and to the barest minimal”, He added.
