Ogun Trains Community Leaders On Basic Citizenship, Leadership Skills

Leadership training has been described as an effective tool to promote transformation and development of Community leaders, hence any Nation that aspires to progress in the comity of Nations should lay emphasis on training and capacity-building of its citizens.

Commissioner for Community Development and Cooperatives, Hon. Ademola Balogun, stated this at the closing ceremony of the Batch A participants of the Basic Citizenship and Leadership Training Course at the Social Development Institute, Shasha, Iperu, saying it would improve the knowledge of community leaders from the point of ignorance to enlightenment and self-awareness.

Hon. Balogun reiterated the Prince Dapo Abiodun led administration’s commitment to providing the right leadership for all-round community development, and other dividends of democracy to citizens of the State, advising the graduands to use the knowledge acquired at the training to improve their various communities and the State at large.

“ To all participants, my advice to you is to put the knowledge gained at this training into use to have a better society, on the part of the State Government, Governor Abiodun will continue to provide the right leadership and the dividends of democracy to the good people of Ogun State,” he said.

Speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Community and Cooperatives, Arc. Oluranti Oresile said the training was put together to empower participants who were leaders with skills and knowledge for effective administration as part of measures to improve on community development of the State, urging them to be more committed to self-help developmental projects and programmes in their various communities.

Earlier, the State Secretary, Community Development Council, Alh. Usman Olamilekan, while commending the State Government on the various initiatives to improve the lives of residents, admonished participants to work hand in hand towards promoting peace and tranquillity in their various communities.

Speaking on behalf of other participants, Mr. Lawal Olabode, Olaniyan Oyeyemi and Mrs. Folasade, Shotomide, appreciated the State Government for the training, said it had broadened their knowledge on leadership, Local Government rules, as well as how to understand and improve community affairs , noting that it had also exposed them to the opportunities available in community service.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of certificates to participants.
