OGYASD TACKLES POOR HYGIENE IN OGUN, TAKES SANITATION EXERCISE TO LAFENWA MARKET
In order to safeguard the state against the outbreak of communicable diseases especially cholera, members of the Ogun Youth Advocate for Social Development (OGYASD) on Saturday took to the popular Lafenwa market in Abeokuta, Ogun state for comprehensive sanitation.
The exercise came as an intervention to meet the outcry of some market women and men who lamented that the market was operating below public hygiene standard.
The OGYASD members in their large number entered the nook and cranny of the market with their work tools, sweeping and clearing off the dirts defacing the market.
The President of the group, Comrade Oluseyi Alamu in an interview with Journalists said the effort was to butress the efforts of current administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun to ensure good hygiene across the state.
Alamu disclosed that the exercise was not first of its kind, stressing that the group had embarked on same exercise
in some markets in the state recently.
He hinted that the group’s plan to make the exercise regular in all the three Senatorial Districts of the state.
He said “We are doing this in support of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s vision to make the state a place of good hygiene and to make Ogun communities free of poor hygiene. The government cannot do it alone that’s why we are out to support.
“All of us in OGYASD are giving kudos to her Excellency, wife of the governor, Dr. Bamidele Abiodun who has been giving us strong support. She’s is really a woman who means well for the people of Ogun state. She has really put us on our toes, making sure that we are productive.
“We cannot also forget the fatherly advise and supports of the Asiwaju of Orile-Imo and Adele of Orile-Oko
Chief Olakunle Olalekan for his encouragement. Asiwaju would always challenge us to stand up as youths to support governor Abiodun in moving Ogun forward. We really love him.
Speaking on behalf of the Iyaloja of the market, Alhaja Sidikat Owe appealed to the state government not to forget the good labour of the group, adding that other youths in the state should emulate such gesture.
The Chairman environmental of the market, Mr Akinpelu Alade stated that the exercise was happening for the first time in Lafenwa market.
“This is the first time we are experiencing a thing like this in Lafenwa. Seeing youths coming out to do environmental sanitation when they are not paid by anybody. I am also happy because this is happening when I became the Chairman. We are so happy about this and I pray that God will continue to strengthen Ogun Youth Advocate for Social Development.
