Schools in Nigeria ended the 2023/2024 academic session towards the last week of July 2024, while TAF began summer coaching at St. James’s Anglican Primary School, Atikori, on Monday, August 5, and it would be concluded September 6, 2024

Some of the parents who spoke with TAF media said that the economy is biting hard and it is a known fact. Some said they wanted to save for the first term and economise instead of paying for summer coaching but according to them, TAF came to the rescue.

For instance, Mrs. Aduke Adeniyi explained that, “the hardship in Nigeria today and with little or no intervention from government, i already concluded that my three children would help me at the shop; but my first son told me about the free summer classes and i decided to come see for myself. This is huge.”

The Students claimed they are enjoying the classes.

Ademola Adeolu, a student of Molusi College, Ijebu-Igbo said, “i like the setup, the teachers have been teaching us new things and new skills. That’s how summer coaching should be and i like it. I’ve been able to improve my skills and study approach.”

Another Student, Dorcas Oluwafeyifunmi maintained that the teachers are accommodating and professionals.

“I’ve gained a lot from the lesson, and i thank TAF. The opportunity means a lot to me as i prepare for my senior school leaving certificate examination. There are many good things to talk about the lesson.”

Meanwhile, the organisers promised to step up the activities for participants next year.

According to the Executive Secretary of the foundation, Mr. Coker Ademola, the free summer coaching is another learning experience for learners during the holidays to keep them busy and help them learn new skills outside of academics.

“We are introducing robotics, coding, arts and craft, vocational skills, and soft skills to mention a few ahead of 2025 summer coaching. The proposal is ready and immediately after this session, the foundation will begin planning towards next edition.”

Mr. Ademola further stated that, the foundation will not stop at making sure education is accessible to the children during the holiday period. He added that the Convener of the foundation Prince Omotola Adebajo (B.Sc. PGDE, PGDTM, MPA, MSC, MNIM, MCIPDM) is a lover of education and as such is ready to make education for the people of his community a top priority.

He also mentioned some of the project embarked upon in the last one year to include the continuous payment of Parent Support Levy of students on scholarship with the foundation, provision of uniform for less privileged primary school pupils, distribution of writing materials on termly basis so as to aid the learning rate of the pupils.
