Police Begin Investigation After 55-yr-Old Man Dies In Abeokuta-Ibadan Expressway Fatal Accident

ABEOKUTA- The Ogun State Police Command says it is investigating a fatal motor accident that occurred on Tuesday along the Abeokuta/Ibadan highway, near Ajobo village.
The accident, according to the command involved a Lexus ES 350 and a Zafira 1.8 Space Wagon, resulting in the death of one person and injuries to six others.
According to a statement by the command’s Spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, eyewitness accounts indicate that the accident was caused by the reckless driving of the Lexus ES 350, driven by a 26-year-old Abiodun Michael who was traveling toward Abeokuta from Ibadan.
The statement said that the Zafira car, driven by a 55-year old Popoola Ishola Kayode, was coming from the opposite direction.
The statement reads “While negotiating a sharp bend, the Lexus driver reportedly failed to slow down, lost control, and veered off his lane, colliding head-on with the Zafira car on the driver’s side.
“Tragically, Mr. Popoola Ishola Kayode died on the spot, while six of his passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries.
“Immediately the matter was received, the DPO Odeda Division swiftly dispatched motor traffic police (motorpol) and patrol teams to the scene to rescue the victims and secure the area.
“Typically, the required response was made possible by the divisional police officer, such as Medical Assistance: The injured victims were transported to General Hospital, Odeda, for urgent medical attention.
“Those with fractures were later transferred to FMC Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, for specialized treatment.
“The Ogun State Police Command urges anyone with relevant information regarding the whereabouts of the fleeing driver or any witnesses to the accident to come forward and assist with the investigation.
“The Command reaffirms its commitment to enforcing road safety regulations and ensuring that reckless drivers face the full weight of the law”, the statement added.
