Police bust Notorious Human trafficker For Trafficking Nigerian girls to Mauritania for sexual exploitation
A notorious human trafficking syndicate has been dismantled by operatives of the Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos, following a shocking revelation of their operations in smuggling young Nigerian girls to Mauritania for prostitution and sexual exploitation.
Confirming the arrest, the Zonal Public Relations Officer (ZPRO), CSP Umma Ayuba, revealed in a statement on Tuesday that the syndicate was apprehended on March 22 at their base in the Meiran area of Lagos.
“Operatives of the Zonal Intelligence Response Squad (ZIRS), led by SP Francis Kpoughul, stormed their hideout, leading to the arrest of two key suspects,” Ayuba stated.
During interrogation, the first suspect made chilling confessions about her role in the illicit operation.
“She admitted that she was introduced to a Mauritania-based woman by another trafficker, who has already been prosecuted and is currently serving a jail term,” Ayuba disclosed.
Shockingly, the suspect confessed that the woman in Mauritania had contracted her to recruit young girls under 22 years old for prostitution.
“She revealed that she was paid ₦50,000 for each girl she successfully sent to Mauritania,” Ayuba added.
Even more disturbing was the suspect’s admission that among her victims was her own 19-year-old daughter.
“She further confessed to receiving over ₦500,000 from the Mauritania-based trafficker for her recruitment efforts,” the police spokesperson stated.
The second suspect, who acted as an accomplice, also confessed but insisted she initially believed the girls were being recruited as domestic staff.
“She claimed that after realizing the true nature of the job, she attempted to withdraw from the operation,” Ayuba noted.
However, the suspect admitted to recruiting at least one girl, but the girl was rejected due to her age and body size.
“That was when she finally understood that something was terribly wrong,” Ayuba added.
