PVC collection: residents troop to INEC offices as Ogun begins two-day work-free day

Residents of Ogun state on Wednesday trooped to the various INEC offices in Abeokuta, the state capital for the collection of their PVCs, following the two-day work-free day declaration by the state government.
Governor Dapo Abiodun of the state had on Sunday 22nd declared Tuesday 24th and Wednesday 25th as work free days for all government workers in the state to visit INEC offices for the collection of their PVCs ahead of the February 25th election.
When our reporters visited the commission’s offices in the state, it was observed that the process was peaceful as security personnel were on standby to guard against violence.
Potential voters who also came for the collection of their PVCs were seen in an orderly manner waiting for the officials to attend to them.
The INEC Commissioner for Abeokuta South, Akeem Balogun said all officials of the Commission were on standby to ensure that every person at the venue is attended to before the deadline for the collection.
Although, some of the potential voters had earlier complained that the commission could not provide their PVCs for unknown reasons.
Reacting to the complaint, Balogun who spoke to newsmen at the INEC office in Oke-Ilwo, Abeokuta disclosed that such issue was peculiar to those who had earlier registered at the Iya- Mortuary office of the commission which was burnt by hoodlums sometimes last year.
Balogun noted that the commission is reprinting the burnt PVCs, even as he assured that the affected persons will receive their cards as soon as they arrive on Friday.
He regretted that some other residents whose records could not be found on the INEC’s portal were due to multiple registration.
His words “What is required is, every officer has been scheduled to go there to collect their temporary slip, search for it and return, some of them that couldn’t find their card were involved in multiple registration.
“Those whose cards are here, you can see they are calling their names and they are collecting it, it’s just a simple process. So they are being attended to immediately. For those with the issue of multiple registration, some of them have been collected.
“Abeokuta South is a peculiar local government, sometimes last year our office at the local government was burnt, and the commission is doing everything humanly possible to reprint the affected PVCs and some them that are here today are one of those whose cards were affected and between today and Friday we expecting the reprinted cards from Abuja”,hd added.
One of the potential voters, Adeleke lamented that he had been at the venue for over three hours but had yet to be attended to.
He complained that the process for the PVC collection was too slow.
Another, Balikis Isiaka said “I spent two thousand naira on transportation to Abeokuta here because I transferred my card from Sagamu to this place for collection but I have not been attended to.
