Security Operatives Drag Journalists Out Of Abiodun’s Father’s Church Funeral Service
Fierce looking security operatives- the police and heavy-chest
bouncers bounced out some Journalists assigned to cover the funeral service of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s Father at the venue in Iperu-Remo on Thursday.
The duo of Femi Oyeweso of Leadership newspaper and Ernest Nwokolo of The Nation newspaper had arrived the venue of the funeral service at the St. James’ Anglican Church, Iperu -Remo as early as 9: 45a.m, however the security operatives manning the entrance of the church bounced the journalists out of the premises.
The Journalists were malhandled despite presenting their media accreditation tags to the security operatives.
The media accreditation with tags worn by the newsmen to cover the event were rough handled by the bouncers attached to Jandor, a private security outfit, who yelled and barked the media men.
Oyeweso’s case, who had entered the church premises first was pathetic as the bouncers quickly identified him and dragged him out even when one governor Dapo Abiodun’s media aide tried to intervene, his plea that they stop pushing the journalists remained largely unheeded.
The wild-looking bouncers barked at them, saying that the press tags they wore was irrelevant and that journalists were only needed to cover the Wednesday’s wake keep service and not the funeral service.
The bouncers were emboldened the more to ill – treat the journalists when the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Edward Ajogun, who witnessed the ugly occurrence at the church gate said “they (bouncers) should be allowed to do their job,” adding that “not everybody should be allowed in. “
It was observed that guests who wore the family funeral uniform (asoebi) and others with special IVs were allowed entrance to the church as the remains of Pa Abiodun will be buried today at the cemetery of the St. James Anglican Church, on Sewolu Street, Iperu-Remo, Ikenne Local Government Area of the state, by 11a.m.
