SSANIP, NASU, ASUP Declare Indefinite Strike In Mapoly, Pass Vote Of No Confidence In Rector, Bursar
The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics (SSANIP), Non Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) and Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) have cried out to the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun on the sorry State of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta which have led to embarking on indefinite strike.
The unions at a different Congress held earlier today, deliberated amongst other issues the attitude of the Polytechnic’s Management to the welfare of staff which had gotten to a critical stage.
Our correspondent that visited the institution, reported that the Staff matched from the venue of the Congress to the Administrative blocks of the Institution, chanting solidarity songs to agitate for their rights as listed below:
1. Non-payment of salaries and allowances since July, 2023.
2. Non – release of the 2019 Appointments and 2020 Promotions to members of Staff.
3. Non remittance of Pensions, CTCS and Union’s deductions for over Forty-five (45) months.
4. Non – approval of Conversion & Upgrading Exercise to eligible members of staff.
5. Management’s financial recklessness and non – challant attitude towards staff welfare etc to mention but a few.
Our reporter confirmed that the Unions have written series of letters to Management on the need to prioritize the welfare of members of staff, but the management turned deaf ears to the yearnings of the people.
The Polytechnic in the past few months have recorded loss of lives of some of its members due to unpaid salaries and allowances, to take adequate care of health conditions of staff, the most recent which was the demise of late Mrs. Kuburat Olonade, which occurred on Saturday, 30th September, 2023 due to lack of money to attend to her health.
The Unions called on His Excellency, Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun MFR, to intervene in the problems ravaging the Polytechnic, and also maintained that the VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE earlier passed on the institution Rector, Dr Adeoye Odedeji , and the Bursar Mr Fatai Yekini.
The Congress emphasized that the intervention of the governor, would restore normalcy in the Polytechnic, adding that not receiving three (3) months salaries at this time of harsh economic realities is unacceptable and uncalled for.
This is totally wickedness, wages, salaries and rewards will boost the morale of the staffs, please Mr Governor help us look into this so the school can call off the strike, our education is important to us.
In fact, the unbecoming of the Rector and his accomplices offering lip services, eyes services and uncountable unethical behaviours and activities became obvious and deeply affecting lives, more importantly walking corpses in the length and breadth of mapoly, destroying such at will, where every staff and student had become endangering specie despite their hardworking and zealous ness. It’s given now and over due to honour the Rector and Bursar with the due honours of: “personal non grata.”
