We are not going back on N1m minimum wage – NLC
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Ogun state chapter says it is not changing its mind on the N1million minimum wage proposal for workers.
Chairman of the Chapter, Comrade Ahmed Ademola-Benco disclosed this in a Press Conference held at the Congress Secretariat in Abeokuta, Ogun state chapter on Wednesday.
Benco hing the Congress insistence on N1 minimum minimum wage on the current hardship being experienced by Nigerians.
He insisted that NLC would not shift the ground on the proposal until the request is granted by the federal government.
He said “N1million minimum wage was a product of dollarisation and we are not withdrawing that except they explain to us why we should shift ground. We are human beings, we will shift ground. They must bring everything on the table and
Benko also urged the federal government to diversify the economy into agriculture.
He faulted the idea of total defense on oil, saying that some unscrupulous elements are being enriched through economic hardship.
“The economy of this country is being rested on oil. Other people are using this economy to enrich their own pockets. It is established after the inauguration of the president and there are a lot of drastic actions going on in order to arrest this impunity.
“The resources of this country come directly to where it belongs. The economy is in a bad state and that is the reason why we are having this strike and the prayer is for the political class to get it right”, Benko added.
