The Ogun State Governor,  Dapo Abiodun has vowed continuous inauguration of road projects across the 20 local governments of the state till 2023 elections.

The road was first constructed by former Governor Gbenga Daniel in 2006 but did not endure the test of time due to lack of proper drainage and had been in a deplorable condition ever since.

Upon assumption of office, Governor Ibikunle Amosu re-awarded the road project to an indigenous construction company in 2012 but the road was left in abeyance after the award of the contract as Amosun failed to mobilise the contractor who in turn abandoned the project, leaving residents in pain.

However, in April 2021, the current administration of Dapo Abiodun began reconstruction of the road and was completed in October 2022 with median and street lights.

While commissioning the project, Governor Abiodun the road was a nightmare in the past, having suffered neglect under his predecessor, Senator Ibukunle Amosun.

He recounted that upon his assumption of office in 2019, all that was left on the road was a sign board, indicating that the past administration was constructing the road, while residents lamented the deplorable condition.

Abiodun said “Today is not just another commissioning but another commitment to the fulfilment of our policies. During my campaign, I promised that I will reconstruct this road. When I came in, I saw this road as a nightmare. It was abandoned by my predecessor. All that was left was a sign board that they were reconstructing this road.

“This road was made with interlocking stones. We had to use a different engineering company. This road links about over 46 communities in Arepo, this is our own way of coming to say thank you for voting us.We have constructed most roads in Ogun central Senatorial District.

Aslo, Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure in the state, Engineer Ade Akinsanya disclosed that the construction was in tandem with the state’s standard, adding that it has brought economic improvement to the community.

“It has brought relief to residents of the area. It is environmentally friendly and has also improved the economy and commercial activities in the area.”

In his words, the Olu of Arepo, Oba Solomon Atanda said Abiodun’s intervention on the road came as a surprise at a time when residents of the area were groaning over the deplorable nature of the road.

“This wonderful project came as a surprise. We didn’t expect it. While the construction was going on, we were doubting whether the possibility that the governor would complete it. Before, this road was not motorable until the governor stepping in,” he said.

The Monarch however pledged the community’s support for Governor Dapo Abiodun’s re-election bid.

The project commissioning was attended by royal fathers, including the Alake of EgbaLand, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, Akirigbo of Remo, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, Olu of Ilaro, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, former deputy governors – Senator Gbenga Kaka, Salmot Badru, former Speaker, Rt Hon.
