The Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has assured journalists of maximum security during the upcoming 2025 Ogun Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) elections.
The Corps’ Commandant, Remilekun Ekunayo gave the assurance on Thursday when members of the Ogun NUJ Electoral Committee paid a courtesy visit to the Command headquarters in Abeokuta ahead of the exercise, scheduled for November11.
Ekunayo, while addressing the committee, stressed the need for peace before, during and after the election.
She urged all stakeholders to conduct themselves responsibly, noting that elections naturally produce winners and losers.
The Commandant warned against crises, describing elections as a democratic process that should not lead to violence or destruction.
Ekundayo stated “In elections, there will always be a winner and a loser. I want to advise all participants to be law-abiding during and after the election.
“We will be there to ensure the process goes smoothly. My officers will be on ground to maintain orderliness.
“Elections should not be about crises. We know there are often rifts among parties, but we don’t want any lives lost or properties destroyed. We will do our best on that day.
Ekunayo further pledged to secure the NUJ premises comprehensively and called for stronger collaboration with journalists, especially in intelligence sharing.
She stated “We will make sure we secure the NUJ environment for a peaceful election. Partner with us in intelligence sharing; we need journalists in this area.”
Earlier, Chairman of the 2025 Ogun NUJ Electoral Committee, Comrade Abiodun Taiwo, said the team visited the Command to seek security support for the forthcoming election.
“We want a crisis-free election, and we are seeking the NSCDC’s support in terms of security,” he said.
