Why Ogun Youths Shun #FearlessOctober1 Protest

Fackt News has observed that, unlike Abuja, Lagos, Osun and other states of the federation where the FealessOctober1 protest was held heavily, there was relative peace in Ogun state as youths shun the exercise.
Our correspondent observed that there were commercial activities in Abeokuta, the state capital and other locations in the state as residents went about their normal life.
Recall that the High Court sitting in Isabo Abeokuta had on Monday restricted the protest to four locations, including the MKO Abiola International Stadium at the state capital.
But the below expectation, the proposed venue for the protest were deserted on Tuesday as no youth turned out for the exercise.
However there was heavy security, including the operatives of the Ogun state police command, military personnel and men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on ground to maintain peace.
Speaking to Journalists at the MKO stadium in Abeokuta, the Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu affirmed that there is calm in the state.
Alamutu noted that the peace was as a result of a meeting held with critical stakeholders in the state towards ensuring that there was peaceful demonstration in the state.
His words “Presently there is palpable calm in the state. We held a general stakeholders meeting where we consulted with all critical stakeholders in the state to exhort them to speak with their wards to shun any violent demonstrations.
“I think it’s working for now. There has not been any sign of any violence or protest in the state but we are still on ground monitoring.
“Like we said, protest is a fundamental right. What we have objection to is a situation where some people will hijack a peaceful protest to cause unnecessary crises in the state that will generate to violence . Meanwhile there is still calm and hope they will sustain it.
